Week ends at Dodd Hall are a little more relaxing. On Saturday the therapy schedule is limited to mornings and dependent on how many therapists are on duty. Yesterday, Mr. Bichler was only scheduled for physical therapy. He walked unassisted 500+ feet, and did knee lifts and side kicks at the parallel bar and stairs. At one point during his walk his therapist asked him to take 5 steps to the left and then 8 steps to the right. Mr. B proceeded to take 3 steps to the right. The therapist questioned him and he replied that he was where she wanted him to be. (have you done the math yet?) The therapist asked if he was trying to out smart her and he said, "it isn't that hard sweet heart!". I think this is why he had to do the stairs and knee lifts. After PT we played some rummy and Monopoly before lunch. Later in the afternoon we walked to Wendy's for a frosty. Since it was pretty cold we took the tunnel to the hospital. It runs underground from Dodd to the Medical Center. On Sunday, Mr. B slept in and pretty much took it easy all day. Luke came over in the afternoon which was enjoyable for everyone. Mr. Bichler had a hot roast beef sandwich and mashed potatoes from Der Dutchman for supper. We also watched the men's and women's OSU basketball games on tv. Tomorrow it is back to a full schedule of therapy.
P.S. A big thank you to the snow elves who have been keeping my drive way clear. What a relief not worrying about snow when I leave or return from the hospital.

The varsity and Jv girls bb team travelled to Berne Union and defeated the Rockets. While there, a Mr. Coleman came over and asked about Andy and showed a lot of concern. I updated him and gave him this site. He said to get well soon and to tell Andy that he has friends in Sugar Grove rooting for him!

Hey Mr. B-
ReplyDeleteI am glad you have not lost your sense of humor. I am sure you are keeping the staff at Dodd hall on their toes. We are off to Berne Union tonight, I hope your 8th grade girls will bring home a well deserved win. Let me know when you are ready for those chocolate chip cookies! ;) Take care, we love you. Mrs. B, take care of yourself. It was good to see and talk to you yesterday at church.

Andy,
ReplyDeleteI can't even express how awesome it is to hear that you are progressing so well and blessing everyone around you with your wonderful sense of humor. April read the blog that Mrs. B posted about you taking food out of the students' lunches...it made her laugh and she remembered that you would ask her what she had brought for lunch! Everyone (including me!!) has nothing but great memories of you in middle school. I hope that Mrs. B shared the hug with you that I gave her in church yesterday and just know that you are in our constant thoughts and prayers.
Love the pic of you and Luke!
We love you!!
