Our plane landed in Maui on time and we picked up our rental car and were off on another adventure. Our destination on this morning was the Haleakala National Park. A winding road elevating 10,000 feet towards the rising sun took us to the visitors center. We stopped for a picture of the sign as we entered the park and were greeted by a rainbow and freezing winds. But once we left the clouds that had enveloped us the temperatures rose into the 80's. After we took many pictures of the crater and moon-scape inside we headed back down the mountain side. It was amazing how many people were riding down the mountain on bikes early in the morning. We also visited the I'io Valley State Park which is a sacred place where one of the bloodiest battles of the Hawaiian Islands occurred when King Kamahameha was attempting to unite the islands. It was a very lovely area and we were pleasantly surprised as we hiked through the park trails. Later we checked into our upgraded hotel where we had the most beautiful ocean view you could ever imagine.
