Wednesday, March 5 - Big Bend National Park

We are sitting outside the camp store using the campground WiFi . It is 8:30 and pitch black except for the expanse of stars in the sky. Big Bend is really beautiful in a desert sort of way. Very stark and the color or lack thereof, this time of year, relies on the changing light and the falling shadows. We did get the tent up but it took us 55 minutes. We slept pretty good except when the burro started braying at 5am.

The Mexican nationals sneak across the river and leave trinkets for sale. How ever if you are caught buying these they will be confiscated and you can be prosecuted!

Today after I took a little birding foray around the campground, we drove to Santa Elena Canyon. We took several hikes today and spotted several new birds for my Life list. Among them: Greater Roadrunner, Vermillion flycatcher, ladderback woodpecker, golden fronted woodpecker. Canyon sren, cactus wren, curve billed thrasher and the Mexican Jay.
