Friday, August 17~Hale Koa & Fireworks~

Walking to the Shore Bird restaurant in Waikiki

A very uncharacteristic healthy fruit and vegetable plate for Sharon.  Of course we had ice cream tonight.

Today we spent the day down in Waikiki again.  Sara made us some whole wheat pancakes with blueberries for breakfast before we headed out to the Hale Koa.  Trish and the kids were down in the pool when we arrived at the hotel so we changed and went down to swim with them.  We walked on the beach down to the Shore Bird restaurant to eat. The lunch which was very good came with an even better view of the ocean and Diamond Head crater.  After lunch we walked downtown to see the Duke statue.  Duke was a well known surfer from Hawaii who also won gold in one of the Olympics.  You would have to ask Sharon which one, since she is the Olympic expert.  We then caught the free trolley that takes you to Hilo Hattie's, a Hawaiian store.  We did a little shopping and then the trolley, which runs every 30 minutes took us back to our hotel. We took another dip in the pool before supper and we ended the day with pizza, Lappert's ice cream and a fireworks display.  Sara, Matt and Evelyn stayed the night at the hotel and Sharon and I came back to walk Shorty and help to get ready for tomorrow.  Better get to bed, tomorrow we are going to try paddle boarding.
