Thursday, August 16~Sandy Beach & Hanauma Bay~

Sandy Beach, also known as Break neck beach

Hanauma Bay

Today was a major beach day.  The plan was to head down to Hanauma Bay for a morning of snorkeling.  Trying to get four adults and 3 children into two cars with all the necessary beach gear is quite the task, but by 9:30 we were on our way only to be turned away because the parking lot was filled. Alternate plan, keep driving until you get to the first public beach you find, and that was Sandy Beach, also known as Breakneck beach.  Needless to say we did not venture into the water, especially after the life guard talked to us and casually mentioned that small children have drowned there.  We played in the sand and watched the novice surfers get washed up onto the sand.  After about and hour we decided to drive back past Hanauma Bay to see if we could get in and as luck would have it they had opened the parking lot back up.  We spent another 2 hours snorkeling in the bay before riding the trolley back to the top and heading back into Waikiki to the Counter for a late lunch.  The Counter is a restaurant where you can build your own burger or chicken sandwich and they have great onion straws.  Lily and Evelyn slept through lunch but were ready for a swim in the pool when we returned to the Hale Koa.  I don't know about the kids, but I am ready to crash.
